Photos almost forgotten and recently rediscovered from our last full day in Seoul, Korea. A second day of exploring Insa-dong, the more traditional part of Seoul, Korea. Natalie and I got into this part of town early enough to catch the morning work crowd hustling it through the streets. Cabs and buses and motorbikes going this way and that. We were looking for a sweet breakfast of red bean paste wrapped in sesame speckled rice cake and we found endless options. We couldn’t decide what to take with us, so we bought them all. We took to the streets on a sugar high, noticing gaggles of cute old Korean men telling jokes to each other as they ran their errands. Many glanced at us in amusement as we took pictures of storefronts from across the street. Us silly American girls enthused by the colors and sounds all around us. Little did they know that we were photographing them, as well. We walked by tea shops where women and men kicked their shoes off and sat around a low table sipping tea and eating rice and beef as if their life revolved around it. Days that end just like they start. Surrounded by family, friends, co-workers, etc. No matter where we went, we were met with friendly smiles and open arms to come join in on whatever we stumbled upon. So grateful for this experience that we had in Seoul. A beautiful, bright city with a culture that I haven’t quite experienced before, and one that I will never forget.
