Up Close and Personal

October 18, 2020

I started reading a lot in Brazil and finished The Vegetarian by Han Kang and now I’m going to start Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay by Elena Ferrante, the third in a series. I feel like I gained back focus with this last read that left me questioning so much about mental health and the cultural differences in approaching it specifically amongst women. This was a focus that was lost to too much screen time. Getting back to my old reading rituals is one part of my wellness goal for the days to come. Every time I take something a away from a book I’m reading, I find somehow to learn something more about myself and my own view on the world. That’s my favorite thing about getting lost in a story. It’s seeing bits of myself reflected in it. It’s like taking little steps towards being more and more up close and personal with myself.

Clean Beauty Update

September 12, 2020

I’ve been trying to stay as conscious about the ingredients that are in the products that I put on my skin, and keeping my routine as clean as possible. The skincare products we use should be like the food we put into our bodies, with the least amount of harmful chemicals that can negatively affect our bodies over time. I’m still learning everyday what’s best for my body. Here are a few of the clean beauty products that I have been committed to these past few months and I feel really good about:

@detoxmode Infinite Crème
@saiebeauty Glowy Super Gel
@detoxmode Feeling Alltogether deodorant
@supergoopPLAY sunscreen
@tataharperskincareBeautifying Face Oil
@boscia Matcha Magic Super-Antioxidant Mask

Up Close and Personal

Photos shot on film

I want to continue to use this platform to keep getting as up close and personal with you guys as I can. A no judgement zone. A place to learn and tell. I’m learning about myself and the world around me more and more every single day. But it’s always a scary feeling to put oneself out there. It’s easier to hide behind generalizations of our true feelings and outlooks. There have been many times I have found myself generalizing my thoughts and feelings for you guys on here for the sake of staying safe and not letting too much of myself out there, but it is my goal to keep trying to push myself forward in ways that get me outside of my comfort zone. It motivates me when you guys reach out via DM because you felt connected to something I wrote or photographed in a personal way. That feeling of not being alone, is such a great connective feeling. Even if there is something that truly is too personal to share, I believe there are ways we can shed light no what we are going through in a deeper, more honest way, that at the same time still gives us the privacy we need. I am still trying to find out this sort of resonating rhythm that works for me. If we all commit to each out unique internal rhythms and outward flows, I think we are going to learn from each other so much better.
