Hair | Date Night Waves

October 6, 2015
One of the biggest stresses when it comes to dating (on top of the nervous butterflies and hoping your date will be a good conversationalist) is what the heck I’m supposed to be doing with my hair! I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to my beauty and hair routine. The more natural, the better to me. But sometimes, taking just a few extra steps can make all the difference, livening things up tenfold so, so easily. I started using the XO Styling Iron, created by fellow blogger Cara McLeay of A Fashion Love Affair. I’m very particular about the hot tools I use on my hair to make sure I’m not allowing any damage while still getting the desired effects. I’ve been using the XO Styling Iron ever since I first tried it. I’m basically hooked because the results have been so spot on. Using the XO Styling Iron has taken me the least amount of time to do my hair ever! Which is great for me, because I don’t like to spend a lot of time on these sort of things! And I prefer to use a straightening iron to add waves, because it gives me a less intense curl and I can always assure that I won’t end up looking like Shirley Temple. If it’s too curly, just a swipe of the straightener tames it down. So I can easily go both ways. On date nights, I tend to to make the wave a little more extreme than normal. As the night goes on, it will effortlessly get more subtle.
I basically start work with the hair around my face first, then start creating waves in chunks from one side to the other side. I start the wave with the iron at a little above the middle point of my head, twisting the hair around the iron with the iron horizontal, and then slowly work my way down. I break up the waves throughout to give them that messy, worn-in texture. Then I put in more beach spray and add in more tousling once I’ve gotten through all my hair, and I’m good to go for the night! Super easy! Thanks Cara for creating the perfect styling iron. It’s truly been a life saver ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey you guys! Something special for you all today! A little beauty story/tutorial/whatever you want to call it. It’s fun to get some content on here that’s a little more interactive every once in a while, as opposed to just pictures and words. As soon as I put on this bright red romper, I knew I had to do something fun with it. And I was inspired to go all out with my cat-eye and red lips. See, I can get glam every once in a while. Still subtle, but just a little something extra extra before summer is fully over and a Coca Cola and little red romper combination can no longer be called practical.
Stila is one of my favorite beauty brands, and has been for a very long time, and I wanted to show you what products I’ve been using to get my favorite va va voom beauty look that I like to rock when the occasion calls. It was so fun making this video, and after seeing how it all came together afterwards, I’ve been wanting to rock my strong red lip way more often! It looks like it’s going to be my new color for fall ๐Ÿ™‚ I hardly ever wear red, but quite a few people have told me it’s a color that looks great on me, so I think I’ll take their word for it.

Happy Monday lovers. Want to get to know my new summertime fragrance? Say hello to Gypsy Kiss. It’s secret is all in the name. Inspired by the girl who dreams to wander, stays in tune with nature and dances to the beat of her own drum. This signature scent, with notes of juicy green apple, dewy jasmine petals and subtle vanilla orchid, is quite the uplifter. When I wear it, I want to be barefoot and I want my hair to be wind blown. Most of all, I want it to be forever summer. I just started wearing it this past weekend, and already I have been getting so many compliments on the scent!

Another something fun is that Gypsy Kiss will be giving away free metallic temporary tattoos on Monday, July 27th, prior to the First Aid Kit show at Central Park’s SummerStage from 5pm – 7pm. Swedish sister band First Aid Kit’s folksy sounds always put me in a dream-like state. Gypsy Kiss and them performing live is the perfect match. Come check out the brand’s tattoo booth if you are in NYC on July 27th and get to know what Gypsy Kiss is all about ๐Ÿ™‚

Clinique | Pretty in A New York Minute

July 17, 2015

I am excited to share with you guys a collaboration I did with Clinique in celebration of the beauty brand’s upcoming Pretty in A New York Minute Event at the Bloomingdales on 59th Street today in NYC. I photographed my Clinique “Beauty a la Carte” look in the beautiful DUMBO, Brooklyn, one of the NYC neighborhoods that has always endlessly inspired me. DUMBO and I go way back to 2011, when my sister first moved to NYC and I just moved to Philadelphia just a few months before her. I was back and forth between NYC and Philly nearly twice a month, sometimes even more, for work and for my personal enjoyment. My sister’s first NYC apartment was in DUMBO, and so this was our stomping grounds that first east coast summer that we shared. As soon as my bus got into NYC, I’d meet my sister for some Asian food near Washington Square Park, then take the subway down to where the Brooklyn Bridge starts in Manhattan, and walk across it all the way to back to her place in DUMBO. Hot and sticky. Late into the night. The loud sound of the subway train going right above my sister’s apartment windows. The noise took some some getting used to, but it was something we almost couldn’t live without. It was the sound of the city that we admired, the city that drove our inspirations.
So here is my Clinique beauty look, inspired by the city I live in, and especially DUMBO because that is where it all started. To create the beauty look I am wearing in this post, I used these Clinique products:
