Gold Rush | Beauty Tutorial

October 9, 2014
Makeup isn’t my area of expertise, but I know what I like (au natural) and I do like to experiment from time to time. Quality beauty products are also important to me, especially since I have sensitive skin prone to breakouts. I don’t want to just slop any old anything onto my face. Stila has been a makeup favorite of mine for years, so look forward to more beauty posts featuring the brand coming soon. With the holidays around the corner, we have more reason to dress up and get fancy, and that goes for our beauty routine and not just our wardrobe. What better time of the year to get sparkly than the holidays, eh? Even if I am deciding to go a little more outrageous with my beauty routine, a neutral color palette is still my go-to. In my eyes, gold is also a neutral, just more vibrant than normal. Just a dash of it and instantly so much more is added to your look. It brightens up my hazel eyes, and that’s why I love to play around with it. My love for gold inspired today’s Gold Rush beauty tutorial post.
This is what I used (all makeup by Stila):
Now let’s get started:
A dash of Convertible Color on my lips and cheeks, and finished off with a light layer of powder . . . and there you have it. A fresh and simple look for the fall and winter that still feels glam. Now you can be a Gold Dust Woman for real.
Now, tell me what you think. Do you guys want to see more of these type of posts on the blog? I have a lot of fun working on them, that’s for sure 🙂

Forever 21 Beauty | Tropical

August 19, 2014

It’s nearing the end of summer, but to me everyday is another day for a brighter and bolder beauty looks. I’m usually more of a bare faced, au natural sort of gal when it comes to what I put on my face, but every once in a while I like to go for something that screams summer with a quick glance. This tropical-inspired beauty look is super easy to do. Very colorful but definitely not too much. See below to find out how to get the look all with Forever 21’s Love & Beauty collection.

 1. Start with a bare clean face. Remember to use sunscreen or a BB cream that contains SPF. No burning is allowed over here. Cover up any skin tone unevenness with Love & Beauty’s Creamy Concealer. It offers the perfect amount of coverage while still letting your skin breathe.

2. Dab on a light layer of Pressed Powder all over to create a good base for the look. Adding some to your eyelids will also help keep the eye color you will be putting on from melting off too quickly.

3. Time for the bronzer! I like to use my fingers to apply bronzer to the apples of my cheeks, a little on my forehead and tip of the nose for a natural looking, sun kissed look. I used the Classic Bronzer Compact

4. Add a layer of shimmery Cream Eye Shadow. I used the color Gilded here. It’s a  creamy, opulent white that brightens up the eyes and gives a hint of that wet look that everyone loves in the summertime.

5. Add a bold line of turquoise eyeshadow from the Day-to-Night Eye Shadow Palette along each upper lash line.

6. Use the Bold Felt Tip Liner in black to add a subtle cat eye starting at your lash line, on top of the turquoise. This will open up your eyes even more.

7. Swipe on the Ultra Curl Mascara on your top and bottom lashes for a lush touch. The brush of this mascara wand is curved, which helps make for an even more dramatic curl.

8. Finish off the look with a pout that takes color super seriously. I love the Ultra Pigmented Lip Color in Coral. It’s super glossy, extra punchy and nearly neon. Nothing lights up a summer night that an awesomely bright lip.

Now throw a floral romper over your bikini and hit the dance floor. That’s what I’m going to be doing 🙂

Romper, choker and earrings are Forever 21

New Hair by LAUREN + VANESSA

May 15, 2014

As the majority of you all know from Instagram, I had my hair did last week done by the lovely LAUREN + VANESSA at their gorgeously spacious Financial District studio. I desperately needed something done to my hair. My hair was really long and super heavy, not to mention extremely dry at the ends because of a harsh bleaching job from a few years ago (back when an ombre was cool). Coloring over the bleach has resulted in the color coming back as a weird burnt orange. Kind of putrid actually. ha
My hair transformation was a 7 hour process, including an entirely new base color (a brown that was two lighter darker than my natural color), subtle blonde highlights near the bottom and framing the face, glosses, a deep condition, and a fresh new cut (I chopped off around 3 inches off . . . maybe more). I feel like a whole new person right now, and I’ve finally learned the art of curling my hair with a styling rod. This tool has been such a lifesaver! I’ve always been one to hardly touch my hair, or bring it anywhere near a hairbrush unless it was extremely desperate, let along use any product or tools for it. I’m keeping my hair routine still super simple, but it’s just enough to add so much more dimension and depth to my everyday look. And it’s so much healthier now.
My friend Kiara from Tobruck Ave also came along for some new sun-kissed highlights and a cut. We both knew beforehand that we were in good hands since we’ve known a few people who have gone to Lauren and Vanessa before and loved the results. So we let them just do their thing as we sat back and relaxed with white wine and good tunes. The perfect way to spend a rainy Friday afternoon inside. Lauren and Vanessa are just the sweetest girls ever, as well. And they really work to find the best possible hair color and cut for you, while still taking into consideration your the inspiration you bring in for a new do. I’ve never seen anyone so calm with a pair of scissors or color brush before working with these two girls. Not to mention, they are absolute stunners.

Make sure to check out the LAUREN + VANESSA website to find out more about what they do. They also offer hair extensions, acupuncture, airbrush tanning and makeup application services! They do it all!
And here’s the final debut:
And even though I got a cut, I can still say, “LONG HUUURRRR, DON’T CUUUURRR.”

Finding Ferdinand // The Color On My Lips

April 10, 2014

Are ya’ll ready for a beauty post? I don’t do many of these on here, but I kind of want to more often. Beauty is a fun thing to play around with, and it’s something that includes everyone, so why not? My friends over at Finding Ferdinand are doing something super cool in the world of beauty right now. I posted about the company a while back, but here’s a recap. Basically you can custom create you own lipstick colors from a foundation of beautiful base colors that they create in a factory on the west coast. Best of all, all ingredients are completely non-toxic! You basically write in a request of your dream lipstick shade on the website and they’ll create it. Submit a picture and they’ll make sure their creation is the perfect fit for you 🙂
Now they added something new to the plate: A Customer Beauty Board. By uploading your photos with your custom Finding Ferdinand colors to this board, you help promote a community of beauty lovers who represent beauty in all forms, skin tones, colors, etc. It’s great because you get to see colors on other skin tones, helping your color choosing decision. Get the perfect shade of lipstick can be a hard task! The Customer Beauty Board is positive and supportive, making the shopping process that much more fun and far less stressful.

My color? It’s called Vamp. A deep, deep plum/wine color is one of my faves for both a day and night look! It’s super sexy to me 🙂 It smolders up a basic look, romanticizes even more so something bohemian, and takes you through the entire night without a beat in your little black dress. I love me some Vamp.
