Beauty Files | That Smokey Eye

January 15, 2015
Guess what guys?? 2015 is going to bringing on a whole new lot of beauty content on the blog. Get ready to get puuuurtyyyyy. Basically flaunt what you got, just accentuate it! Excited to start sharing some easy girl-on-the-go makeup looks that you don’t have to be a makeup pro to do yourself. Because trust me, if I can do it, you can, too. Let’s start the year off with something subtle yet smokey. I’ve always admired the Hollywood actresses who rock the red carpet with a sexy yet perfect swipe of charcoal across their lids. Sadly, I’ve never before been able to recreate the look in quite the same way myself. I always just ended up looking messy, undone and a little bruised. AKA not cute. So I veered away from doing up the eyes too dark, even on nights when I’ve wanted to feel a little sexier than usual.
So here is my latest attempt, and I think I’ve finally found the key to smokey eye happiness! Thank’s to L’Oreal’s Infallible Smokissime powder eyeliner. The sponge dip applicator makes it super easy. I use the tip of the point applicator to add a darker swipe of black along my lash line. Then I use the side of the applicator (which acts like a smudger) to gently blend the color upwards towards the outer points of my eyes. You can use your finger, as well, if you want to be even more careful and to have more control over the intensity of the smokey look. And the color didn’t move at all throughout the day thanks to some Smashbox primer on my lids (helps keep the level of grease down).
A swipe of super sheer nude gloss, full brows and a natural glow on the cheeks with a baked blush is all I need to finish off the look.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); = id; p = ‘//’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
And there you go! A subtly intense smokey eye that translates well for both day and night, depending on the lip you go for! Stay tuned for the next issue of Beauty Files!

MAC Matte | Sin

Giant Lion stone earring
SCOSHA hollow wrap silver ring
In the fall, I subconsciously gravitate towards darker tones. On my sweaters, my shoes, my choice of drink, and of course my lips. And not just because Halloween is around the corner and I’m trying to scare trick-or-treaters with my witchy tendencies. In actuality, we are slowly losing our natural summer glow and now need something new to replace it with. Forget the faux bronze gel . . . it’s all about the contrast this season. Paler skin against a darker lip is eerie and mysterious. Boys may not kiss you until it rubs off at the end of the night, but girls will think you’re cool, and that counts, too. MAC’s Sin is as sexy as a glass of red wine, and as regal as a black rose. All I need extra to add to my look is a swipe of liner for a “cat-eye”, and some light blush. Viola! A haunting look for the season.

Shop the color:

Vaseline Intensive Care | Cure For Winter Skin

October 21, 2014

Winter is such a burden on our skin, and especially on someone’s as sensitive as mine, which is why I’m getting a head start on prepping my skin for the polar months ahead of us. I grew up with my mother preaching me the positive effects of moisturizing in the winter time, if not all the time! And Vaseline® was always in the bathroom cabinet in our household. It still is! And it still works its magic just as well as it did back in the day, but actually even better thanks to Vaseline® Intensive CareTM – a range of lotions that go beyond basic moisturization to deeply moisturize to heal dry skin. The new line is made up of a very special blend of humectants (to draw water into the skin), and healing micro-droplets of Vaseline® Jelly (to lock moisture in). Like original Vaseline® Jelly, these micro-droplets are highly refined, and 100% pure. Together, the humectants and Vaseline® Jelly micro-droplets in the lotions work to deliver a range of moisturization needs. I personally prefer the Intensive CareTM Advanced Repair Fragrance Free because I can actually feel it working as soon as I apply it, and my skin feels soft and supple for a long time afterwards. And I go for Fragrance Free because I can make sure that irritation won’t be a problem at all.
Winter is already rough. We don’t need anything else to make it any rougher.  Vaseline® Intensive CareTM will make sure that isn’t a problem. That and a hot cup of cocoa, of course!

Gold Rush | Beauty Tutorial

October 9, 2014
Makeup isn’t my area of expertise, but I know what I like (au natural) and I do like to experiment from time to time. Quality beauty products are also important to me, especially since I have sensitive skin prone to breakouts. I don’t want to just slop any old anything onto my face. Stila has been a makeup favorite of mine for years, so look forward to more beauty posts featuring the brand coming soon. With the holidays around the corner, we have more reason to dress up and get fancy, and that goes for our beauty routine and not just our wardrobe. What better time of the year to get sparkly than the holidays, eh? Even if I am deciding to go a little more outrageous with my beauty routine, a neutral color palette is still my go-to. In my eyes, gold is also a neutral, just more vibrant than normal. Just a dash of it and instantly so much more is added to your look. It brightens up my hazel eyes, and that’s why I love to play around with it. My love for gold inspired today’s Gold Rush beauty tutorial post.
This is what I used (all makeup by Stila):
Now let’s get started:
A dash of Convertible Color on my lips and cheeks, and finished off with a light layer of powder . . . and there you have it. A fresh and simple look for the fall and winter that still feels glam. Now you can be a Gold Dust Woman for real.
Now, tell me what you think. Do you guys want to see more of these type of posts on the blog? I have a lot of fun working on them, that’s for sure 🙂
