Paint Me Red

Yes, I am wearing shorts. No, I am not crazy. Winter in Southern California is actually very kind to bare legs. I don’t even know why I wanted to wear shorts this day. I just did. I did happen to do all sorts of crazy layering on my upper half (my arms get cold much more easier than my legs). I love to wear red, but only in small bursts, so I layered this red cardigan under my leather jacket for a fun peak of color. Red is an awesome way to add some kick and spunk to a look. I picked up these boots on sale at Anthropologie after Christmas. My sister and I spotted them at the same time on the shelf, but since they were too big for her they ended up mine! Haha. One can never have enough black boots in my opinion. You can wear them with everything, so they are a very practical investment.

Going to head out for a little walk/hike and then enjoy the rest of my lazy Sunday before I start work tomorrow morning!

Jacket – GAP, Knit Scarf – Deen + Gray, Sweater – Forever 21, Jeans – James Jeans, Shoes – 80%20 from 80’s Purple

If I ever decide that I want to play in the snow, I can always just take a drive up to Frazier Park, where there are long stretches of desolate grassy areas, pretty little horses grazing, and quaint log cabin homes. These pictures were taken last week, but at the time there really wasn’t any snow left (darn it!). I had fun anyways, even though the freezing cold air was biting at my fingertips and nose. My heavy knitwear and a warm coat came in handy to fight the chill.

A Walk Through Paris

January 6, 2011

From the look of these preview images, the upcoming Free People January catalog is going to be stunning. I threw in a little extra French eye candy for good measure. I am now thoroughly tempted to jump on the next flight straight to Paris. I have never been to Paris before, but I have always dreamed of the day that I would visit this romantic and magical city. Whenever I think of Paris, I imagine artists in berets painting their own versions of the Eiffel Tower. I see myself nibbling on candy-colored macaroons as I contemplate which freshly baked baguette to take home with me. I draw in my head picturesque streets and dainty hole-in-the-wall cafes. Hopefully, it will be sooner than later that I will get the chance to explore these historic streets and write my own story in the city of love. And when I finally do find myself in Paris, I will dress like a Free People girl in polka dotted shorts, slouchy knitted tanks, and whimsical dresses that float gracefully with every move I make. And maybe I will catch the eye of a cute and sweet French boy. A girl can dream, right?

Jacket – ASOS, Top – Moschino Cheap and Chic, Jeans – courtesy of Rich & Skinny, Adair Boots – 80%20 from 80’s Purple, Bag – French Connection

Sometimes all I need are some vibrant florals, down-to-earth cargo, and fit-like-a-glove denim to face the day. I must say that these Rich & Skinny Zip Legging Jeans are superb. They don’t stretch out even after multiple days of wear and they feel like leggings without looking like leggings. Now that takes talent. What more can a denim-lover ask for? And these 80%20 boots are really a gift from heaven. They do an awesome job at keeping my feet dry and warm (like during the massive rains we had not too long ago). They are both chic and tough, which is a perfect combination in my opinion. I bought this coat for my mom, but of course, I get to wear it whenever I want. I like it without the detachable furry lining, and the toggle buttons make it childish and playful. Nostalgic memories generated by a piece of clothing are always the best.

In other good news, on Sunday it snowed out here in the valley outside of Los Angeles! That happens only like once every 20 years or something. Right after lunchtime, what first started off as a slow rain transformed into a light winter snowfall; thus, our sleepy suburban town turned into the powder white winter wonderland it always wished it could be. We got almost an inch of now (yeah, not much I know), but it was enough to call for a celebration. We’re all over the news! That day went down in history (and the kids all over town had lots of fun). The snow is all gone now, but at least we have our memories to remember it all by. This new year has definitely started off on a good foot.

Oh, and how do you like the new blog layout? I wanted something simple, clean, and pulled together for the new year. I really love it 🙂
