Only 3 More Days . . .

December 21, 2010

As you can see from the pictures above, I am totally in the Christmas mood. Our living room looks its prettiest at night when our neighbor’s lights sparkle through our window, the tree is twinkling, and the chandelier hangs brightly in all of its elegant glory. Only three more days until Christmas. I want these next three days to go by as slooooooowwwwwwwwly as possible because I never want Christmas to end. These pictures are also a little sneak peak of tomorrow morning’s post where you will see how I styled this vintage lace dress for a more casual day out. Even though it has been raining kittens and puppies for nearly 24 hours every single day, there is no reason not to dress your best. The holidays are the perfect reason to put your most fashionable foot forward, don’t you think?

Put Me In The Mood

December 21, 2010

I am constantly finding inspiration from so many different places and from so many different things. Sometimes it is hard to keep track of everything that influences my sense of style or mood, and sometimes I don’t even realize that something has inspired me until after the fact. Currently I am lusting over romantically soft fabrics and the decadent sparkle of sequins and beads. I think I need to infuse more of a fairy-like aesthetic into my life. Dainty, airy, and light. It all sounds and looks so pretty in my head. My beat-up boots and lived in leather jacket are seeking a gentler touch so as to feel refreshed and new. I am a super casual Cali girl at heart, but I like to feel like I’m living in a fairytale at times.

Other pictures that I like and that remind me of this season. Snow covered nature, a hot drink on a busy day, Audrey Hepburn’s timelessness, Christmas cookies, golden bows, and red polka dots against saturated red.

Sometimes all it takes is a conglomeration of beautiful sounds to inspire me on a whim, like this genius composition by Cinematic Orchestra. It is called Arrival of the Birds. Many of you may find this song familiar, as it is also featured in one of my favorite fragrance commercials: Acqua di Gioia by Giorgio Armani. This song is pure bliss. Every time I hear it I imagine running across a green mountain top glowing with shattered light, with nothing at all holding me back and only the presence of fresh air gliding against my face with every step I take. I think this music goes perfectly with how I am feeling right now, as well as the mood of this post. Enjoy, and keep dreaming, becoming inspired, and inspiring others.

From Day to Night

December 19, 2010

Cardigan – STORETS, Sweater –, Jeans – James Jeans, Faux Fur Stole – vintage, Bag – French Connection, Shoes – Stuart Weitzman
Here is the head-to-toe look of what you see in my new header (which I hope you all like . . . change is good!). Sometimes all I need is a little faux fur to take whatever I am wearing go flawlessly from day to night. I wanted to find an easy way to dress up this long cardigan and dotted sweater for a holiday party that I went to last week. The faux fur stole was the smartest way! Paired with a dark wine lip, I feel sultry and festive!
Christmas is just around the corner. I have no set plans just yet, but I am in dire need of an escape to some place . . . any place. Maybe to someplace that isn’t raining day and night like it is where I am right now. Anyways, I am in the mood to go see Black Swan today. Everyone has been saying such good things about the movie. I also need to go car shopping soon. A new car, or an upgrade from what I have now, will be necessary for me next year.
Enjoy the rest of your weekends!

Rainy Day Schedule

December 18, 2010

Jacket – Volcom, Button-front Shirt – Forever 21, Striped Top – vintage Ralph Lauren, Jeans – Free People, Shoes – ModCloth, Beanie – Forever 21, Bag – French Connection
Today it rained all day long, which made for a nice change of pace. I woke up late, didn’t change out of my pajamas until noon, went out to continue my Christmas shopping, had a huge dinner at my favorite restaurant, and then went to watch a super cool Christmas light show. Took some quick shots of my outfit this morning. This look obviously didn’t take much thought. I just reached for things that looked comfortable and rain-ready and layered them all together. I love the combo of cargo green and stripes, so I worked around that. I like this cargo jacket from Volcom because its sweater-like material that softens its utilitarian appeal. Basically another casual chic look for a lazy yet lovely day.
Speaking of rain and all that jazz . . . did any of you have rainy day schedules in elementary school? Rainy days were my favorite at school because it meant lunchtime was spent in the auditorium with all my best friends, eating pizza, making fun of our professors, and getting to watch our favorite movies (Disney). Those were the days. Being a kid was so freaking cool. I always feel most like a kid during this time of the year. Don’t you?
