Photos of street by me

I could sense the artistic nature of Florence, Italy just by walking its streets. Who wouldn’t be inspired by its array of terra cotta neutrals that act as blank canvases for the imagination? Or the sky-reflecting canals that turn clouds into masterpiece visions to be interpreted in a stroke of a painting or the curvature of a sculpture or the repeating pattern of the ceiling of a Tuscan villa. Some walls on the streets lightly covered in moss, giving age and substance to a history that will continue to grow in this inspiring city to take in with the eyes and explore with the feet. Natalie and I kept our energy up with square slices of cheese pizza to complement a plate of pesto pasta to share. And red wine, of course. Always red wine.

Also, just wanted to share with you all a song I have on repeat currently:

Shadows settle on the place, that you left.
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it’s a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.

And if you’re still breathing, you’re the lucky ones.
‘Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong.

We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we’ll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.

Second part of our Luisaviaroma #Firenze4Ever shoot with photographer Sara Mautone and in collaboration with Shopstyle CollectiveFor this one we decided on a black and white theme, which is something more refined and elegant for Natalie and I colorful California girls at heart). Sara had the wonderful idea of skipping the Florence city streets as a backdrop for this shoot and instead gave into her whims of doing something striking against a more minimalistic backdrop. The stark white interiors of this Florence apartment was the perfect alternative for our black and white ensembles that took proportion and shape very much into mind. Natalie and I danced our way through the hallways, creating a fuzzy wave of movement with these dresses that made us feel as fancy and overindulgent as princesses. Self Portrait is one of my newly favorited labels for form-fitting dresses. They are ace at creating that slim fitting waistline to showcase a feminine figure that pairs so well with heels that elongate and extend. There’s something really special felt in a dress like this. I can feel it.

Now let’s take the elegance from the looks above and take it to an even more extreme level of edginess. This Grecian-inspired maxi dress with a Cruella De Vil twist shouted out to me before I even set foot in Florence. I saw it on the website before our trip and knew that I must decorate myself with it. And so I did. It leaves lots to the imagination, with subtle, barely there faux cutouts, and a cinched waistline that pulls its contrasting colors together. I kept thinking it was Gucci as I twirled infront of the mirror in the dressing room. It was not, but it was just as good . . . Maria Lucia Hohan captured my dreams with this dress. It was a sad moment slipping it off at the end of our evening shooting up in this apartment in Florence that just started to feel like home. Natalie also taking a few extra moments to admire the standout frill of her Les Petits Joueurs dress that encapsulated her shoulder blades. Extra fancy never tasted so good before.

More adventures from our downtime exploring the city coming soon!

Hey sista, soul sista! Natalie and I always jump at the chance to be in a photo shoot together because, well, it doesn’t happen too often! Especially since we are always behind-the-lens for each other when we travel. It’s so nice to finally get some sister shots in for once! And it’s even more exciting when it’s for Luisaviaroma and in collaboration with Shopstyle Collective! And in Florence, Italy! For this one, we went for a spicy and bright theme to go along with the decor of the top floor of an amazing Florence apartment we found. We loved how the colors on our clothes popped again the blue jacuzzi and the gloomy skies behind us. It’s like we brought a little bit of California to Italy with us. This festive Missoni number makes me want to tango and drink smoothies on a beach. Hopefully I will be doing so someday very soon 😉

Part 2 of our shoot coming soon. The next one is very different in color scheme, let me just tell you this right now. Ciao!

A first look at my trip to Florence, Italy for Luisaviaroma‘s bi-annual #Firenze4Ever celebration. I was instantly blown away by the city’s golden beauty during our drive from the airport to the stunning Villa Cora, which we would be calling our home during the weekend. A former Tuscan residence, the Villa Cora is as grand as a villa can get. Every room differently themed and colored. Extravagantly decorated with gold trimmings and floral pops. My room was blue and Nat’s was yellow. I felt like I was living some sort of Marie Antoinette-esque dream out in real life. This terrace overlooking the main entrance of the villa was my favorite. I made sure to bring my coffee up here in the mornings here before walking down the quaint, moss covered road into the city. Nat and I explored the endless narrow streets of the little town around a 20 minute walk away from the villa. We popped into little bakeries and art shops. Every sort of knick knack imaginable can be found hidden in these streets. Candles. Soaps. Poetry books. Every window decorated with forest green shutters. Every couple of blocks we’d see laundry hanging to dry from one. Retro cars buzzing by with vespas tagging not far behind. The noise echoing down the narrowness of the street. Ladies in long coats riding bikes to their next destination. A heartfelt ciao here. Another one there. The day felt so simple yet so superb. The air so fresh. Just the perfect amount of overcast and mildness to the weather. A jacket was hardly even needed. We had an amazing weekend getting to know the talented Luisaviaroma team. More coming soon from our sister shoot with Luisaviaroma, featuring some of our favorite designer pieces featured on the site 🙂
