What a way to spend the week before Christmas! This trip marks my second time visiting Aspen, and it truly was something very special. The event of the season in Aspen is the World Snow Polo Championship, which The St. Regis is one of the sponsors of. In-between getting to watch the polo match, exploring the town of Aspen in seek of the best vintage stores, and taking the gondola up to the top of the slopes (just for the view, not to actually ski), The St. Regis Aspen was the most amazing place to unwind. Our warm and cozy room with a view of the mountain landscape, dips in the hot tub at the spa, a nice and long dinner at the end of a strenuously cold day. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience of hospitality I have to say.
Growing up, my sister and I weren’t very fond of cold weather destinations as a vacation. We were used to the desert and the beach, but now being east coasters, and getting used to the cold, coming to places where the cold is enjoyed in so many ways sounds very exciting to us. It feels new and fresh. And there are so many ways these types of environments inspire us creatively, too. The nature. The snow. The blinding blue light the top of the mountain. Après ski and the smell of mulled wine. It inspires the way we get to dress, and the activities we find ourselves doing. There is so much wellness to be found in a mountain town, as well. From the exercise and the ritualistic spa afternoons. Aspen is a place that is both exhilarating and totally low key at the same time. And I have come to love it! Staying at The St. Regis Aspen of course made this very easy to do!
And of course, experiencing our very first snow polo was so much fun! We loved watching the beautiful horses on the match grounds as the sun set behind the mountains, and learning about the history of the sport and how this event brings so many people together from different places. It’s a unique social event that I’d love to attend again. Aspen, this will not be my last time visiting you, thats for sure!
