From My Side of the Bridge

March 20, 2020

Sandro clothing
Maje purse

This photo was taken a few weeks back, the first time I took a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge after quite some time. This bridge is what made me fall in love with NYC in the first place, and in a way confirmed my decision to move here. It breaks my heart to see my city come to a standstill like this, and for us to be unable to do all the NYC things that bring us so much joy. But it’s all for the better. I’m glad that I still can get a view of this bridge from my rooftop, and that will be good enough for now. Good luck with your self-quarantines everyone. Not going to lie, I am enjoying how relaxedly time passes at home these days. Still, I hope we get better sooner than later.

Three NYFW Looks from September

March 20, 2020

Three of my favorite looks from this past NYFW in February. Two looks feature pieces from one of my favorite places to shop for cool pieces online, Farfetch. The Marine Serre moon print bodysuit was a fun one for a rainy day. And the fancy Ganni feather dress was so fun to wear. I paired them with tall boots to go out. The look with my blue Saks Potts coat might be one of my favorite, because the color was so standout.

Which one is your favorite?

Ritz Carlton South Beach

March 20, 2020

This is a photo diary from the most relaxed weekend ever in Miami. Even with the weather mostly cloudy and very windy, the 71 degrees felt extremely therapeutic. Thank you Ritz Carlton South Beach for feeding us some amazing meals, giving us such high quality service, and providing us with the coziest room to binge watch movies and listen to the ocean all night long from. The Art Deco in the hotel was so beautiful, and the little touches here and there in the rooms really made the place feel extra chic without being overdone at all. We stayed within a 3 block radius of the hotel our entire trip, as we came with the intention of being homebodies away from home, and it was fantastic. The day after I got back from this trip, the pandemic was beginning to get into full swing mode in NYC, and things felt like they changed in an instant. Gabi and I almost cancelled this trip because of the all the talk on the news the week beforehand, but it wasn’t as serious yet and so we decided to go. I am grateful that we had this last weekend to spend together someplace away from home. We didn’t do much but enjoy each others company, and amongst all the comforts the Ritz Carlton South Beach provided. We are continuing to enjoy each other’s company here at home, and I feel lucky that I have a man like the one I have to be by my side every single day of this. Everything happening right now is a great reminder that nothing should ever be taken for granted.

Renew-ability and Rewear-ability

March 19, 2020

Maje denim jacket and shorts
H&M scarf

Wildly western. And sustainably so. This denim look by Maje Paris was made with a new stone-wash technique that reduces all resources: water by up to 95%, chemicals by up to 50% and energy by up to 79%. I support this movement by brands that I love. These all natural rock formations dig it, too.

To be honest, it’s hard to draw a fine line for myself when it comes to non-sustainable vs. sustainable fashion, as someone who both lives and breathes fashion, but who is also someone who lives and breathes the beauty of the earth and believes in the protection of it. I see with open eyes the detriments that the fashion industry causes on our earth, and a lot of times it leaves me shameful. As a fashion blogger, am I in fact a part of the problem? I am very much aware of this controversy, but I do try my best to be as conscious of and sustainable in my shopping decisions, and show my followers how I do so. There is still so much that needs to be done to get all brands on the same page when it comes to sustainable fashion that makes it more accessible and affordable to the masses. I see the day that it will happen, but it may take a while to get there. But with brands that are moving in that direction, like Maje, slowly but surely we will be there. Until we do actually get there, I will always stress the importance of buying quality items that you 100% see living in your closet for a lifetime. Longevity. This word is so important today. Never see fashion as disposable. Be aware of where a piece is made and what it is made of. Mix vintage and second hand into the wardrobe you already have. Swap clothing with your friends so you don’t always have to shop and buy new. Rewear, rewear and rewear. If you do purchase something new, challenge yourself to find a hundred different ways to style it with what you already have in your closet. Trust me, it is a rewarding feeling. With self-quarantine in action all around the world today, wearing a brand new outfit everyday makes no sense at all. If there is at least one thing the fashion industry can take from this experience we are having right now, it is this change of mindset that less is more. If we can make a domino effect of this mindset, we will definitely be heading in the right direction.
