The Perfect Valentine’s Day Set

February 3, 2018

Zimmermann lingerie set

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. I’ve been with my boyfriend for nearly two years, with some long distance thrown in there scattered throughout our time as a couple. Him in Brazil. Me here in the States. It hasn’t been the easiest having to have time apart, but for the long run, we know it’s worth it for all the time we will have together in the future. Facetime is really such an amazing invention! And that’s how we can share Valentine’s Day together. Even though, really, Valentine’s Day to mean is just another holiday I don’t pay too much attention to. That’s because everyday can be Valentine’s Day.

I’ve never been one to really go crazy over lingerie sets. I’m so casual and laid back, when I’m at home with my boyfriend, I’m usually in mismatching sweats! He loves it either way, sweats or lingerie. But I know that it’s nice to have surprises to sneak into our relationship at special times. And not just for the boyfriend, but for myself, as well. Pretty lingerie is a great form of self love and TLC when home alone. Candles lit. Face mask on. Robe draped warmly around. Book in hand. Or Netflix and chill. My favorite fragrance dangling around my neck. Whatever it is, lingerie with extra va va voom can make any night of the week feel extra special. Even if there is no other reason than enjoying the view in the mirror for a few minutes in something that feels out of the ordinary. It’s nice to change it up. Valentine’s Day. Any Day. Single or taken. We all deserve that extra special treatment every now and then.

A Standout Coat by Lie Sangbong

February 2, 2018

Lie Sangbong coat
Frame jeans
Marskinryyppy shoes

I was lucky enough to get my hands on this all around fantastic coat by one of my favorite Korean designers, Lie Sangbong. This piece, a part of the FW17 collection, is a made up of bold, primary colors and prints, inspired by the 2018 Winter Olympics. I for sure have never had a coat like this. It’s a piece that leads an outfit. Nothing else can outshine it. It is in fact, an Olympic gold metal out of a series of winter coats. There were so many ways running through my head on how to style this baby. Layered with Heat Tech underneath, of course. I always start with that. Maybe with black oversized trousers? Tall black boots? A super chunky knit underneath? In the end, I settled on a simple route. My favorite blue denim, my go-to black cashmere sweater, and a pair of kitten heels with my name embroidered for a touch of femininity. I was in the mood to let the coat do the talking. The rest I let follow. It makes dressing in the cold so much easier because half the styling work is already done for you. Do you guys like to go for a standout coat to lift the winter mood?

The Importance of Family

January 31, 2018

When I had my crystals read a few weeks back, it felt very close to heart indeed. My crystal reader brought up the subject of family to me quite a lot. It just happened that the next day I was to embark on a 10 day journey with both my parents. It has been quite a while since the three of us took a trip together without Natalie. Natalie had to cancel last minute because of work, but I decided to keep my travel plans locked. I was looking forward to some well spent, quality time with my parents, both of whom I love so, so very much. My parents are both very different people, but they complement each other so well, and I see so many parts of myself in each of them. As I’ve grown older, I understand them so much more, and vice versa. The way a family grows stronger with time, it is a beautiful way of blooming. Quality time like this is quite rare in between my work schedule and other travels throughout the year, so this trip was very important to me. My parents are getting older, even though there spirits are so young that they seem not much older than myself, I know time flies and I want to make the most of the time that I have with them. They are in fact, my favorite people. And I owe so much of who I am to them. As an adult, I want to give them everything. Even more than what they have given me. Because they deserve it.

Now back to the crystal reading. She told me that in the years to come, family was going to be one of the most important things in my life. I told her how excited I was about my trip to Asia to visit my mom’s side of the family. I told her how important it was for me to see my parents more. To talk to them more on the phone and update them on my life more regularly. To treat them more like friends, rather than parents. To take the time to hear their perspectives on things and allow them to reflect alongside with me. To be more patient and respectful with them, unlike when I was a teenager. The crystal reader told me that I needed to find more focus on the things that I held passion for, because then I would truly be great. And she told me, that I am the type of person who must always be happy with the things she does in life. And that in fact is very true. I’ve quit jobs in the past because I was unhappy. I remove myself from situations and from friendships where I find myself doubting myself. When I find myself feeling empty over something, I always step back to breathe and figure out a practical way to make things better. And I always follow through.

I found myself so happy on this trip in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok with my parents. It was one of the most refreshing trips to date, even though we were jet lagged and low on sleep. I was glad that my dad was able to come to this part of the world again after 10 years. He needed this vacation. He has been a hard worker his entire life, and chose to work over take time off most times. But this past year, because of personal family stuff, his perspective changed. My father wanted to enjoy life more. Work less. And I saw how much my mom’s face lit up whenever we gathered around the home of her mother’s, with her sisters and brothers who she only gets to see on rare trips like this. She was in her element. It made me happy to see both my parents so content, as we hotel hopped and jumped around from relative’s houses, stayed up late to eat food from Malaysia’s diverse cultural background. My family life is a unique experience, and I feel blessed to say that it is mine. I only find myself in Kuala Lumpur once every few years (or even longer than that), but I find so much of that feeling of home in this city. Almost as much as I find that feeling in Los Angeles and New York City. In a way, one can say I feel it even more so in KL. Maybe it has to do with the reason that we are not as close to my father’s side of the family in LA, and that made us find comfort in the family that we do have all across the world.

I promised my parents that we need more trips like these. All of us together, with Natalie. To see as much of the world as we can together, as a family. Because who knows how much longer we have to do so. The world is so full of adventure and the unknown and other magical things that has the potential to take our breathes away time and time again. I want to experience all of these, but differently each time, in a different place. With the people I will love and trust for the rest of my life. This is my main goal in life. And hopefully, these stories will be passed on, never to be lost in the shuffle. But retold in ways that make them unforgettable. This trip certainly was unforgettable for me. It was precious. Imperfectly perfect. Offbeat in the most wonderful way. And I think we all learned so much. Until next time.

A Radiant Day with Clé de Peau Beauté

January 30, 2018
Remember that 24 hours in Los Angeles I talked about not too long ago? This post is about that day. I was lucky enough to spend the day getting pampered with the best products from Clé de Peau Beauté, a luxury beauty and skincare label from Japan. My mom has been a fan of he brand for years, and was excited to see its name getting bigger in the US more recently. There’s something so special about really great quality makeup and skincare. As I get older, I get so much more picky about what I put on my face. I want it to be the best. The most amazing thing about Clé de Peau Beauté is the technology behind it. The day was all about finding our most radiant selves. The brand’s science behind its products is made to specifically increase our skin’s radiance everyday. There is the hydrating isIlluminating Complex EX ingredient the brand uses, derived from rare silks and Japanese pearls. I like to compare my skin to things like this, diamonds, and silk and pearls. Things that age gracefully, and that get even better with time. That is exactly what Clé de Peau Beauté does.
Now, back to my Radiant Day at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills. We started with a healthy breakfast at the restaurant before making our way up to the room for skin consultations, foundation and color matching, and some time on the roof by the pool with the most amazing view of Los Angeles, and a very eye opening crystal reading with Azalea Lee. The experience was WOW. And it was the most refreshing day before I had to embark on a long day of travel to Asia. We all got to try the whole Spring 2018 beauty collection, which includes some of the most fantastic color pops for the lips. I love to layer the lipsticks with the Radiant lip glossesThe Foundation, which can applied with the finger, is also one of the most breathable I have ever gotten to use. And the packaging is like something you’d find in a fine art museum. It’s that exquisite. You might just say, that I am a makeup convert now. How could I not be?! We got our makeup and hair all done for a night out celebrating the new Spring collection launch in Beverly Hills. It was a glamorous night for sure, hosted by Felicity Jones, the brand’s new face and best choice for an ambassador!
There really is something special about a TLC routine that is next level and makes us feel like princesses. Even when it’s just at night and we are washing our day away at the bathroom sink. This is the skin that we will live in forever. It deserves the best! And Clé de Peau Beauté is by far the best.
